Everybody Reads 2017

From Harvard sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond, Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City follows the lives of eight struggling low-income families in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Through their stories, Desmond exposes the nation’s eviction epidemic and lays out fresh ideas for solving this devastating problem.

In partnership with Multnomah County Library and The Library Foundation, Literary Arts is proud to present a lecture by Matthew Desmond as the culminating event of the 15th annual Everybody Reads program. Lear more about this citywide shared reading experience at multcolib.org.

This author event is sponsored in part by A to Z Wineworks, The Standard, and Oregon Public Broadcasting.

A New York Times Bestseller, Evicted was also selected as Wall Street Journal’s Hottest Spring Nonfiction Books and Amazon Best Book of the Month.

“Every once in a while a book comes along that changes the national conversation… Evicted looks to be one of those books.”
—Pamela Paul, editor of the New York Times Book Review
