Noontime Showcase: Kenney Polson
Saxophonist Kenney Polson has studied music for many years, and is today an extraordinary player, educator, and composer of smooth jazz. Polson’s CD Paradise was released to the world by the Prodigee Record label on May 23, 2016. It debuted at number fifty-five on iTunes for top new jazz recordings.
Throughout his career Polson has performed with famous musicians such as Bettye Swan, Z.Z. Hill, Joe Williams, D.J. Rodgers, Gil Scott-Heron, Fred Wesley, Lee Garrett, Michael Henderson, Norman Connors, and many others. He has taken his music on tour to Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Colombia, Brazil, and over a dozen Caribbean Islands. Polson has performed on television shows with internationally famous jazz artists Kenny Burwell, Jimmy Heath, Phil Woods, David Sanborn, and Wynton Marsalis. Some of Brazil’s most famous jazz musician’s have recorded with Polson, and many can be heard on Paradise. Currently, Polson can also be seen performing with Rick James’ Original Stone City Band.
Only thirteen years old when he began to develop as an accomplished saxophonist/composer, Polson has earned an Associate of Arts Degree in music, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music education, a Masters of Music degree in jazz composition/arranging, and an Education Specialist degree. He has taught music in public schools, private schools, college and universities. He has given clinics, lectures, and performances in over fifty countries.
Polson’s unique abilities and musical accomplishments make his recordings and performances essential for all lovers of music, especially jazz.

This is the first of ten weekly, free Noontime Showcase performances as part of Summer Arts on Main, which feature a wide variety of performers and styles. Suitable for all ages.
Noontime Showcase & Summer Arts on Main
During July and August, Noontime Showcase- a monthly free performance held inside Antoinette Hatfield Hall during most of the year- moves out to Main Street and changes to a weekly schedule. This Noontime Showcase is part of the 2017 Summer Arts on Main series, which runs 11am to 2pm every Wednesday from July 5 to September 6, with free performances, children’s activities, and outdoor booths featuring local artisans selling handmade crafts. Summer Arts on Main Street runs concurrently with the Portland Farmers Market in the adjacent park blocks (Shemanski Park at Park Ave. & Main St.).
