The Nowhere Band

The Nowhere Band is NOT a “Beatles tribute act” where each person takes on the roles of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Instead, the band takes an ensemble approach to accurately replicate the material the Beatles performed. For the Music on Main performance, the band will perform songs selected from the Beatles entire catalogue, dating back to 1964. The Nowhere Band strives to create the feeling of what it must have been like to experience these songs in a concert setting.

The Nowhere Band is the occasional side-project of a handful of musicians from Portland, Oregon.  Conceived in 2002 for a Beatles-themed party by John Averill (who also co-founded MarchFourth Marching Band months later), the Nowhere Band only performs on special occasions, such as Oregon Country Fair's 40th anniversary (in 2009), and most recently 2012 Eugene Ballet Theater company's "All You Need Is Love" show at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.  In 2008 the band teamed up with The Wanderlust Circus to create the holiday extravaganza "White Album Christmas," performing the Beatles' 29-song epic "White Album" in it's entirety; it has now become an annual event in Portland (in Dec 2011 the show expanded into a four-night sold-out run at the Alberta Rose Theater).

Music on Main Street 2014

On Wednesday evenings during July and August, Portland’5 takes advantage of the lovely summer weather in Portland to present Music on Main Street, our free outdoor concert series. The concerts feature popular local musicians playing a diverse collection of music. The 2014 season features jazz, salsa, tributes to the Beatles and the Allman Brothers, Ghanaian drummers, power pop, songwriters, and bohemian caberet.  The free concerts are open to the public and run from 5pm to 7pm – tickets are not required. The ArtBar & Bistro will be serving seasonal fare and delicious libations starting at 4:30pm. The free concerts are held in downtown Portland on Main Street, between Southwest Broadway & Park Ave., next to Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

Music on Main Street is made possible through the generous support of these fine sponsors: Jack Daniel’s, Bacardi USA, Hidden Crush Wines, Trinchero Family Estates, Bridgeport Brewing Co., Full Sail Brewing Co., Crispin Cider, Young’s Market Company, Columbia Distributing, OnPoint Community Credit Union, and Willamette Week.
