Grammy-award winning acoustic guitarist Doug Smith is the winner of the prestigious Winfield International Fingerstyle Competition in 2006, and Billboard Magazine writes, "Inviting melodies...stunning fingerpicking". Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine raves, "Smith's fretboard brilliance continues to dazzle”. His original music has been heard on radio and TV shows throughout the world, including True Hollywood Story and Martha Stewart Living, and his playing has been heard in movies such as Twister, Moll Flanders and August Rush. Doug Smith is a nationally recognized acoustic guitarist who weaves together folk, classical, jazz and contemporary forms into a unique, flowing fingerpicking style recalling the playing of Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges, and Alex de Grassi.

Tonight's concert is a celebration and performance of our new CD, with 13 new tracks ranging in style from love songs, to rock anthems, to swinging influenced vocal jazz and politically driven lyrics.  You might hear a resemblance to legends Paul McCartney, Yes, Collective Soul, Manhatten Transfer, U2, Tom Petty, and Jackson Browne; but assuredly these songs speak direct from the musical heart and soul of only The Noted.
The critics say...
The Noted’s new CD, titled At This Moment, brings new depth and breadth to their already outstanding reputation as one of Portland’s best performance bands. This new CD showcases the band’s fine sense of musicality and skill at “hooking you up” to the tune, along with their unique and moving lyrics.  At This Moment has almost 60 minutes of music that reflects this group’s plethora of sounds, ranging from lovely acoustic ballads reminiscent of the likes of Jackson Browne or even Paul McCartney. The words and music though, were distinctly Northwest-flavored with a huge dash of Portland’s own variety of social conscience.
- Connie Coulton/Positively Entertaining
A sound that mimics the Beatles at times and the Red Hot Chili Peppers at others.  The Noted’s brand new album “At This Moment” delivers the type of singer/songwriter soft indie rock that the hipster set craves.  At This Moment opens with “More Than Alright.”  The track starts musically with the type of old school sound that you would expect from a Beatles record, then the lead vocals kick in and you’re transported back to the 21st Century with sophisticated lyrics and smooth production.  The album boasts one cover song, “Only Wanna Be With You.”  Most bands do their covers exactly like the original recording, not so with The Noted’s seasoned musicians.  Somehow the band managed to make Hootie’s ode to a lovely lady semi 60s soft rock sounding.  The album’s title track begins with a Pink Floyd sounding intro then kicks into some very inspirational lyrics that America needs to hear.  The hook asks us to live each moment like it’s our last.

The Noted is a band of fine craftsmanship and musicality, and their new CD, "At This Moment," is a showcase of their skill. "The One" takes its place among the best of love songs, and its tender lyrics are nicely complemented by music that both understates and emphasizes its sentiment. "Take Time," a (literally) snappy and immediately engaging work, is a welcome revival of the age of very cool instrumentals. "Only Wanna Be With You" is both fun and musically literate, a nice and very rare combination. The band's sensitivities to broad issues and perspectives are revealed in songs such as "More Than Alright" and "At This Moment."
