Noontime Showcase: Portland Opera To Go

La Bohème

A candle flutters on a cold night…two hands find each other in the dark, and fan a spark of love into flame…

This most accessible and romantic of Puccini’s operas concerns the fortunes of four young men, whose lives are changed forever when one of their number, the poet Rodolfo, falls in love with the girl upstairs.

This classic story of youth, poverty, love, friendship and coming of age makes a perfect first opera. The characters and relationships are immediately relatable for today’s kids—even at the distance of 100+ years!

Portland Opera To Go's 50-minute, English language adaptation of Puccini’s classic is a magnificent way to experience opera for the first time. Designed specifically for 7th through 12th grades, our adaptation of La Bohème retains all of the humor and pathos of Puccini’s original in an accessible, vibrant staging sure to engage, delight and inspire your classes.
