Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

Brahms Fourth Symphony

Praised as “one of the greatest orchestral works since Beethoven,” by musicologist Donald Francis Tovey, German composer Johannes Brahms’s rich Symphony No. 4 lights up our winter concert. This performance will also include Chinese composer Li Huanzhi’s Spring Festival Overture, beautifully illustrating the traditional celebration of the Chinese New Year in the Shanbei region of Northwest China.

This concert will also include a performance of Austrian-born composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold‘s Violin Concerto by 16-year-old Nate Strothkamp, winner of the 2019 PYP Concerto Competition.

Conducted by David Hattner, PYP’s Musical Director.

  • Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 4
  • Li Huanzhi: Spring Festival Overture
  • Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Violin Concerto in D Major
Nate Strothkamp, winner of the 2019 PYP Concerto Competition

This performance may not be suitable for children 7 years of age or younger. Younger audiences may enjoy our Cushion Concerts (performed by our Young String Ensemble) more.
