Music on Main: Pura Vida Orquestra
Pura Vida Orquesta is an 8-10 piece Latin band based out of the Pacific Northwest, Portland, OR. The band plays Salsa, Timba, Cumbia, Cha Cha Cha, Latin Jazz, Merengue, Bachata, and Latin Funk. Led by Saxophonist and Vocalist Gabriel (Paquito) Martinez from Costa Rica, Pura Vida Qrquesta has been a mainstay in the Portland Latin Music Scene and includes amazing musicians from diverse backgrounds: Yovanny Perez (Guatemala) Piano/Vocals, Mario Sandoval (Guatemala) Percussion/Vocals, Milko Escalera Vigil (Cuba) Vocals/Percussion, Sam Katchel (Portland) Bass, Jackson Coffey (Portland) Percussion, Chris Nakato (Portland) Trombone, Noah Simpson (Arizona) Trumpet.
This is a band mainly composed by musicians from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba, and USA who have studied in the different musical schools of their countries, putting together a contagious and energetic projects of Live Salsa Band genre in Portland ; among its successes we can mention it's periodical performances in prestigious Portland salsa venues such as Conga Club, Mississipi pizza among others. Several band‘s musicians have also played in many cities in the United States such as New York, Miami and Seattle and throughout Washington and Oregon states. The band's performance is very diverse and allowed the public to explore a variety of Latin American rhythms such as; Timba, Salsa, Merengue , Cumbia, Cha cha cha , Bachata, Son and Guaguanco to complete the festivity flavor that makes dancers to enjoy the dancing floor all the time.
ABOUT MUSIC ON MAIN
The Portland’5 Centers for the Arts and the ArtBar & Bistro are proud to present the 12th Annual Music on Main outdoor concert series from July 5 to September 6, 2017. The free concerts are held in downtown Portland on Main Street, between Southwest Broadway & Park Avenue, next to Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
On Wednesday evenings starting in July, Portland’5 takes advantage of the lovely summer weather in Portland to present the free outdoor concert series. The concerts feature popular local and regional musicians playing a diverse collection of music.
The 2017 series features Hawaiian hot jazz, second line, country swing, Talking Heads tribute, Latin/salsa, R&B, and funk. The free concerts are open to the public and run from 5pm to 7pm – tickets are not required. The ArtBar & Bistro will be serving seasonal fare and delicious libations starting at 4:00pm. Tables are for food and beverage patrons only and are available on a first come, first-served basis.
