Due to unforeseen circumstances Gina Chavez has had to postpone her performance at the Winningstad Theatre on October 26, 2018. Portland’5 Presents is planning on rescheduling the performance to a later date, yet to be determined.


Gina Chavez is an an eight-time Austin Music Award winner and 2015 Austin Musician of the Year. Her blend of bilingual folk-pop is uniting people all over the world from Austin to Chicago and Venezuela to Saudi Arabia. In addition to garnering national attention on NPR's All Things Considered and the Tiny Desk concert series, Chavez tours internationally as a cultural ambassador with the U.S. State Department and runs Niñas Arriba, a college scholarship fund for young women in gang-dominated El Salvador, where she and her partner Jodi lived for 8 months.

Gina Chavez is blending the sounds of the Americas with tension and grace. A multi-ethnic Latin pop songstress, Chavez is a nine-time Austin Music Award winner -- including 2015 Musician of the Year and Album of the Year for her sophomore release, Up.Rooted. Her independent album topped the Amazon and Latin iTunes charts following a national feature on NPR's All Things Considered, and has been hailed by The Boston Globe, USA Today, Texas Monthly and the Austin Chronicle.

Chavez's passionate collection of bilingual songs traverse cumbia, bossa nova, vintage pop, indie-folk and reggaeton that takes audiences on a journey through the Americas as she discovers her own Latin roots through music. An eight-time Austin Music Award winner, Gina and her band have opened for Grace Potter, Grammy winners La Santa Cecilia, Gaby Moreno, and Grupo Fantasma, and are winning audiences throughout the U.S. and abroad while on tour as official ambassadors with the U.S. State Department's American Music Abroad program. She took home the Grand Prize in the 2014 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for "Siete-D," a song about her experience volunteering in a gang-dominated suburb of San Salvador where she founded Niñas Arriba, a college fund for young Latinas.
