Sing for the Cure

Oregon Repertory Singers present a powerful and personal concert for choir, orchestra, and narration: Sing for the Cure: A Proclamation of Hope. This groundbreaking ten-movement work—dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and breast health—will be performed on October 11, 2025, at the iconic Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

Premiered in 2000 with narrator Maya Angelou, the piece takes the audience on a deeply personal emotional journey through ten musical movements interwoven with compelling spoken narration designed to inspire and educate. Written by ten American composers, this collaborative work shines a light on the importance of early detection and the ongoing need for research and support through the stories of individuals, families, caregivers, and medical professionals.

As part of the 25th anniversary of its premiere, ensembles around the country are presenting this concert in more than ten major cities, culminating in a finale performance at Lincoln Center in New York in November. Oregon Repertory Singers is presenting the Northwest premiere in Portland during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In service of Oregon Repertory Singers’ mission to enrich lives through exceptional choral music and meaningful community engagement, a portion of net ticket revenue will be donated to The Pink Lemonade Project, a regional nonprofit that provides critical resources and services to individuals facing breast cancer in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir high school singers will perform alongside ORS for this landmark concert.
