MYAC Pacific Northwest Tour Joint Concert with PYP
The Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) and the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory (MYAC) join forces to deliver an exciting program of two unforgettable classics!
The evening begins with the upbeat third and final movement of Tchaikovsky‘s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35 featuring the incredible talent of a young MYAC violinist, Cordelia “Momo” Fredrickson. You will hear the fast melody, undoubtably inspired by the Russian folk music of the time, spin around and around until it gets tired, slowing down to its more lyrical tune, before jumping up again into a twirling dance.
We are then transported to the pastoral soundscape of Brahm‘s Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73. Compared to his first symphony, which took almost 21 years longer to write, you can hear how much Brahms had grown as a composer. Leonard Bernstein noted that the first theme in the opening movement reappears in many forms throughout the other movements.
This concert is done as a part of MYAC’s Pacific Northwest Concert Tour.
