Singu-Hilarity: A STEM Vaudeville Comedy Show

Singu-Hilarity: A STEM Vaudeville Comedy Show | July 26, 2024 | Brunish Theatre

Do you love science? Do you love comedy? This show is for you! From a robotic stand-up comedian headliner to electronic music played on a novel instrument, this comedy variety show has everything needed to delight and entertain your inner nerd. Join us for a collision of the vaudevillian spirit of old with the technologies of modern-day.

Show producer Dr. Naomi Fitter has opened for Bil Dwyer, Laurie Kilmartin, and Whitney Cummings and performed in the All Jane Comedy Festival. When she's not telling jokes, she spends her time studying human-robot interaction as an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing at Oregon State University.

But the excitement doesn't stop there - the performance features nationally and internationally renowned acts from Sarah Hagen, Katie Nguyen, Chet Udell, and Bert Walpack.

Sarah Hagen is a Eugene-based comedian who inflicts her unique brand of nerdy humor on audiences across the Pacific Northwest. In addition to traditional stand-up, Sarah performs musical comedy and storytelling. Her festival appearances include the Ha Ha Harvest Festival, Northwest Women's Comedy Festival, and Savage Henry Comedy Festival. Another multitalented lineup member, Sarah holds a PhD in mathematics and teaches math at Davidson Academy.

Katie Nguyen is a writer and comedian living in Portland, Oregon. Her writing has been featured in The New Yorker, you can hear her stand-up on SiriusXM radio, and she is a regular at Helium Comedy Club. Katie has opened for Maria Bamford, Todd Barry, Matt Braunger, Ron Funches, and performed at festivals including Limestone, Out of Bounds, 10,000 Laughs, Asheville, SF Sketchfest, Stumptown, All Jane, and Bridgetown. She was named the winner of Willamette Week's Funniest Five in 2021.

Chet Udell is an award-winning electronic instrument designer, performer, and composer. His works have been recognized with the Best Performance award at the Georgia Tech New Instrument Competition and as a world-finalist in the international composition and performance competitions Prix Destellos and Sound in Space (to name a few accolades). A force to be reckoned with, on top of these credentials, Chet is an Associate Professor of Biological and Ecological Engineering at Oregon State University.

Bert Walpack is a comedian from New Jersey. He is a tall, gray-haired, lanky, waspy father of three who runs a dental practice during the day but keeps his smoldering comedy career alive at night. Now living in Eugene, Oregon, he performs throughout the Pacific Northwest. Bert has opened for Craig Gass, Todd Barry, and Steve Hofstetter. He has also performed in the Bricks and Bridges Comedy Festival, Portland Maine Comedy Festival, and the DB Cooper Comedy Festival.
